The award winning Reuben’s on Huguenot in Franschhoek may have closed but why not visit this masterchef’s space at the renowned One & Only hotel in The V&A Waterfront for a celebrity dining collaboration
Celebrity chef Daniel Redondo will bring a big dollop of Brazilian warmth and passion to Cape Town when he joins local celebrity chef Reuben Riffel in the kitchen this winter. The two chefs will present an exciting, collaborative dinner at Reuben’s One&Only on Saturday, 27 August 2016.
Maní is the most highly rated restaurant in São Paulo, Brazil, and has frequently appeared in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Set in a historic house in São Paulo’s leafy Jardim Paulistano neighbourhood, Maní offers a warm, welcoming, unpretentious dining experience in an intimate main dining room and a tree-filled private courtyard.
In researching content for this post I found the food of chef Redondo to be very similar to the technique and style that our chef Reuben has come to be known for. Simply plated, with a spin of intricate flavors yet still approachable and not overly frilly or pretentious.
I also noted that Mani draws influence from local ingredients and has a fantastic relationship with each of their suppliers who they have built great relationships with over the years. A drive that restaurants locally are also very focused on. Farm to table at it’s best!
In anticipation of his trip to Cape Town, Daniel Redondo commented: ‘I was born in Spain but I have a Brazilian soul, and I look forward to showing my passion and ingredients to a Cape Town audience. South Africa has such a rich culture to discover and, for a chef, it is even more interesting and important as it brings inspiration to my work. I have never been to Cape Town and I am sure it will be a great adventure’.
Chef, Reuben Riffel and his team are looking forward to the prospect of teaming up with the chefs from Maní: ‘Daniel’s food is modern Brazilian, and it’s exciting to have the opportunity to work with him and his chefs. His cooking methods are not dissimilar to what we are doing locally, so there will be synergy in our thinking. We will focus on our signature Cape-style dishes with a twist, utilizing the best local ingredients and traditional flavours’
Each chef will present two courses of the four-course dinner menu and will be on hand to explain the inspiration behind each course, as it is presented.
The evening promises to be a feast of of gourmet food perfectly paired to Kleine Zalze’s award-winning wines presented by the resort’s head sommelier Luvo Ntezo, a great dinner treat at R595 per person including wines.
It also does’t hurt that both chefs are pretty dishy themselves!
