My Favorite Finds this Summer & MCC Giveaway

With so many events filled with champagne and roof top dinners there’s no excuse to not be chasing the Summer Sun.

From festivals like LittleGig the Stellenbosch Wine Festival this weekend and  the Veuve Cliquout “Yelloweek” ahead there are no signs that summer is coming to an end anytime soon and we’re not complaining.

These are some of the things; food, clothing and of course wine that we’ve enjoyed in the New Year.

Fighetti Swimwear

A post shared by @fighettiofficial on

Summer for me means, relaxed easy to wear outfits that can go from the sands of Clifton 3 to Dinner at La Parada in minutes with very little fuss nor a traffic laden drive back to my hotel.

These Fighetti shorts are exactly what I need in summer.

The Blu Marino which I have pair perfectly well with simple swimwear basics, relaxed on the blonde beaches and a quick dry and a white linen shirt and dinner attire is effort less. Pefect for a full day in Camps Bay.

Inspired by the Amalfi Coast, the brand encapsulates the Italian panache and classic Italian design approach of ‘quality without compromise’.

Theses shorts are net-lined s and has a smart zipper, perfect for if you head for a jog on the beach and use your mobile for music.

Perfect for the never-ending summer in South Africa!

Proof Wine Bar Somerset West

I recently visited Proof and loved the quirky off street addition to the Helderberg area. It is known as the first “crowd funded” wine bar in South Africa and offers a delicious selection of South African wines and a few nibbles too.

I was drawn to the simple chic interiors by Kim De Villiers and asked her to tell me more about the inspiration.

When Kim (KDV Intertiors) first met co-owners, Wayne & Dan, she realized that each had a similar end goal in mind albeit slightly different ideas.

Taking note of their needs and wants, they assessed the space – and how much it could manipulated with authentically allowed the space to unfold.

Task and accent lighting played a large role in the Bar’s design, where ambiance was key. The pendants were made up by MOS (based in Johannesburg), Hoy P’loy supplied the vintage style bulbs.

The centre piece, a geometric rhomboid oak flooring instillation by Bjorn Wooden Flooring.

The on trend Hans Wegner wishbone chairs are replica and sourced from my favorite “local” Weylandts, the upholstered occasional chairs from Block & Chisel and  replica Roadhouse barstools found on-line.

The gorgeous hanging plants where planted by Opus. The two concrete occasional tables were bought on-line from Superbalist.com

SORBET Man // New Men’s Grooming Range

I got sent a few items from the team at Sorbet to sample the newly launched Men’s products range.

Included were; 3-IN-1 SHOWER GEL-Hydro Cool , 3-IN-1 SHOWER GEL -Max Active, BODY LOTION-Hydro Cool, and a Post Shave Balm.

The 3 in 1’s make perfect gym or travel additions to your vanity kit. Used as a Shampoo, Face Face and Body wash this is also perfect product if you couldnt be bothered to pack a full over night bag. The formula is highly saturated in fragrance so i would definitely “smell before you buy” as I didn’t like the Dark Blue (Max Active) fragrance, a very musk driven scent. They Hydro cool (turquoise) reminded me of the red Dunhill Fragrance with the notes of apple, orange blossoms, fresh, sweet bergamot and sparkling lemon.

The Lotion and Shave balms are also fragranced so be sure to see if these work with your grooming regime. The Post Shave has a good consistency with DuraQuench™ IQ (which aims to provide high-levels of hydration and moisturisation) and is not too creamy. However possibly not suited to sensitive skin due to the fragrant formulation.

The Price point on these products is fantastic coming in all under R90.00 or R110.00 for a travel pack of 3 products and avail at most local “Drug Stores”

Paul Rene MCC & GIVEAWAY

I recently discovered a Roberston based MCC at a dinner at Reverie social club here by each course was paired with various stages of this beautiful gem. From still wine to the finished product the dinner and epicurean event was delicious.

Farmer and bubbly producer, Henk van Niekerk, believes it is the break away from the traditional which propelled this MCC from its humble beginnings on Wonderfontein Estate, to the fridges and coolers of a new generation of bubbly enthusiasts.

From vine to vinoteque, each bottle is fermented for no less than 20 months on the lees, which creates a vibrant mousse, apricot and green apple freshness, with emphatic & persistent dry finish.

Freedom Of Movement // Stellenbosch

This image makes me want to pack my bag and literally head for the hills!

I found myself meandering the streets of Stellenbosch and stumble across this quaint store on the uper parts of Dorp Dreep. With on trend branding and an open spaced store i walked in to discover incredibly well crafted and beautiful leather goods. Each bag, wallet, watch or leather bow tie (Yes very 50 shades of dapper) are curated form different tones, textures and types of leather.

I had my eye on the simple sling styled laptop bag or even the tote/over nighter/mommy bag which i could use for my camera and lenses. Each of the bags are quirkily named, think “The Russel” “the Bobby” “the Jane”

Bags Range from R1600.00 to R5500 for my adored The Franklin multi use “camera/overnight bag”. Time pieces are all R2595.00
