SPIGA Durban has re-opened at 465 Innes Rd
(alongside Charlie’s and opposite Mitchell Park).
Spiga Doro Durban will be closing its doors indefinitely this Sunday (4 March 2018).
“Spiga” as it is known to by many, has been an institution on the Durban restaurant scene for over two decades.
Spiga Doro have been serving pasta and pizza on Florida Road since 2001, however, the business ran into trouble after a massive expansion and deli additions in the “new Foodie Capital of the coast” – Durban North
Spiga Doro Durban north opened in March 2015 with a costly contemporary setup and deli driven space but closed August 2017.

Over 500 people have shared and just over 1500 have reacted to the above post, taking time to share their sadness and memories of this iconic home for many foodies.
Social media and supporters of the iconic eatery which a span over decades and continents shared their memories on social media using the hashtag #SpigaForever.
Speaking to Marco Santoniccolo, it had to be said that the closure had noting to do with the new landlord (Urban Lime) and more of an inward family decision to make the change.
“From us the Santoniccolo famiglia, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to our long serving staff who have become family, and of course to you, our SPIGA FAMIGLIA.
Together, we have built an icon on Florida Road, and will forever be remembered as a place where families gathered, couples swooned and food flowed with incredible passion.
Our core value is one of inclusion and everyone, no matter who, had a seat at the table.
It’s been a great run, and we want to go out with a bang.
Saturday night will be our last dinner service and Sunday we officially close at 2pm.
We are going to take the time to be with our famiglia on Sunday afternoon.

Urban Lime have always been strong supporters of our business and are an integral part of the Florida Road transformation project.
We would like to thank them for their support through these difficult times.”

We are devastated that the business is closing despite all our collective efforts over the last few months.
Urban Lime fully recognise the importance of offering locals and visitors to Florida Road choice which is why small, local, family businesses are so important, make up the bulk of our tenants on the Road and why we actively support a local, family-operated mix. Spiga is a huge loss for Florida Road.”
Urban Lime started investing in 2014 in commercial property in Durban and have put and continue to put a large amount of resource into revitalizing, refurbishing and restoring properties on Florida Road.
