On the 28th and 29th of May 2021, the stylish Schoone Oordt Country House in Swellendam will host a delectable gourmet weekend to highlight the culinary stars of the historical town and beyond.
The charming country hotel is located in the heart of Swellendam, a 220km drive from Cape Town, which connects the Overberg to the Garden Path. Alison and Richard Walker, the owners, are passionate about people, family, food, wine, and the world. Schoone Oordt is known for its on-site Conservatory Restaurant and its lavish regular 3-course breakfast buffet. As part of the guest experience, the focus is on unpretentious, unaffected comfort, beauty, efficiency, love, and attention to detail. The luxurious accommodations are surrounded by lush gardens and a sparkling saltwater pool.
At La Sosta Restaurant, foodies and wine connoisseurs will be treated to a 4-course Italian fine dining dinner prepared by chef couple Salvatore and Nina Branda. Sijnn Wines, which uses interesting blends of Mediterranean-style varieties grown to fit the South African climate, will be combined with the Italian feast. The second dinner will be a decadent dinner prepared by guest chef Jason Whitehead, who draws inspiration from the exotic and intense flavors of India, Thailand, and France at Schoone Oordt’s elegant Conservatory Restaurant. Olivedale wines can complement the menu perfectly, revealing the secrets of nature by allowing nature to prescribe as much as possible during the winemaking process.
A delectable lunch at Tredici, a renowned Swellendam landmark, fusing Cape Dutch, Italian, and delicate French flavors in simple dishes, is also included in the gourmet weekend. Grace + Merci, the latest venture of Swellendam personality Bev Missing, who is best known as the founder of Rain Bath & Body products, will serve a picnic lunch in the beautiful riverside setting.
Guests will stay in one of Schoone Oordt’s eight luxurious rooms, each with every modern comfort while preserving the Victorian feel of the Manor House and a bygone age with carefully selected antique items.
