Joining JEWELLS at Spice Route for Lunch

An iconic couple has travelled the “Spice Route” to open a farm to fork, outspoken eatery in the vistas of the Paarl Winelands.

Tina and Niel Jewell of Bread and Wine in Franschhoek are no strangers to bold bistro styled dishes that pay homage to their ingredients and local surrounds.

Here, JEWELLS at Spice Route an open plan kitchen spills out creative plates of often simple “uninspired” and forgotten ingredients.

The leather bound menu is compact in that it offers 4/5 course per course with a two course menu option averaging R295pp and a little over R370pp for 3 courses.

This may read as steep pricing for the area but certainly not for the caliber of service and value for money on the plate.

A huge “saving” in the perceived high menu cost is the sheer affordability of the estates wines hosted on the wine list.

These, by glass, wines range from R35 upwards with some punchy library wines like their esteemed Malabar being available by the bottle too.
Beers are by on-site CBC which for 330ml came in less affordable than other neighboring eateries that offer this option on tap, a surprise.

The service was endearing if not over attentive with patience shown in explaining less than familiar menu items.

The vista-views are naturally breathtaking with Table Mountain stretching it’s way towards the Vineyard lined terrace on a clear day.
