We Revisited Kauai’s Smoothies: Which Ones Are Actually the Healthiest in 2026?

A while ago, we published our article, “Are Kauai Smoothies as Healthy as They Seem? A Closer Look at Sugar and Calories.” To our surprise, it quickly became one of the most-read nutrition articles on Hospitality Hedonist.

It turns out many of us are asking the same question. If we’re choosing a smoothie instead of a milkshake, surely we’re making the healthier choice?

The answer, as we discovered, is a little more nuanced.

Since publishing the original article, Kauai has expanded its smoothie range with several new additions, including All The Greens, Chad le Clos, Tropical Bliss, Granadilla Lolly and The Ultimate Recovery. Naturally, that got us wondering whether any of these newcomers deserved a place among the healthiest options on the menu.

So, we went back to the nutritional information and analysed the smoothies once again. This time, rather than focusing solely on calories and sugar, we looked at the categories that matter most to readers. Which smoothie contains the most protein? Which has the lowest calories? Which contains the least sugar? Which is best for weight loss, recovery or simply making a healthier choice?

As before, we’re not affiliated with Kauai, nor are we trying to tell you what you should or shouldn’t order. Our aim is simply to help you make a more informed choice the next time you’re standing in front of the menu.

The Lowest Calorie Smoothie

If your goal is simply to keep calories in check, All The Greens is the clear standout.

Made with mango, cucumber, pineapple, celery, baby spinach, pressed apple juice, chia seeds and hemp seeds, it certainly looks the part. At just 398 kJ per 350ml serving, it works out to approximately 95 calories, making it dramatically lighter than almost every other smoothie on the menu.

However, this is where nutrition becomes more interesting than calories alone. All The Greens contains just 1.9g of protein and 2.1g of fibre. While it’s refreshing and relatively low in calories, it probably won’t keep you satisfied for very long. Think of it more as a nutrient-rich beverage than a meal replacement.

For those looking for the lowest-calorie option on the menu, it takes the top spot. For those looking to stay full until lunch, the answer may be different.

The Highest Protein Smoothie

Despite the arrival of several new smoothies, the Peanut Butter Bomb remains the protein king.

A 350ml serving delivers 25.9g of protein alongside 5.5g of fibre. That’s more than double the protein found in some of the newer additions and enough to make it a genuinely useful post-workout option.

Protein remains one of the most important nutrients for satiety, muscle maintenance and recovery. It’s also one of the reasons many people choose smoothies in the first place. While the Peanut Butter Bomb isn’t the lowest-calorie choice, it does a good job of balancing protein, fibre and overall satisfaction.

For gym-goers and active individuals, it’s still one of the strongest options available.

The Lowest Sugar Smoothie

One of the biggest surprises from our analysis was the Plant Peanut Butter Bomb.

At just 8.5g of sugar per 350ml serving, it comfortably outperforms many of the fruit-heavy smoothies on the menu. It also provides 24.5g of protein and an impressive 11.7g of fibre.

This combination matters. Fibre helps slow the absorption of sugars into the bloodstream, while protein contributes to fullness and sustained energy levels.

It’s rare to find a smoothie that performs well across multiple nutritional categories, but the Plant Peanut Butter Bomb manages exactly that.

The Smoothie That Looks Healthier Than It Is

Tropical Bliss isn’t unhealthy, but it serves as a reminder that names can sometimes create assumptions.

Made with mango, pineapple, frozen yoghurt, coconut milk, honey, toasted coconut and chia seeds, it sounds like something you’d find on a wellness retreat menu. Nutritionally, however, it’s one of the richest smoothies currently available.

A 350ml serving contains 1888 kJ, approximately 451 calories, and 44g of sugar.

To put that sugar content into perspective, that’s roughly 11 teaspoons of sugar.

That doesn’t automatically make it a bad choice. Someone using it as a meal replacement or after an intense workout may find it perfectly reasonable. However, for readers focused on calorie control or reducing sugar intake, it probably isn’t the smoothie they imagine it to be.

The Most Misunderstood Smoothie

The Ultimate Recovery was perhaps the most interesting smoothie we analysed.

The name suggests a serious recovery shake aimed at athletes and gym enthusiasts. Yet a 350ml serving contains just 2.5g of protein alongside 23.8g of sugar.

To be fair, Kauai positions this as a recovery drink containing electrolytes, BCAAs and L-glutamine. Those ingredients certainly have their place. However, when most people think of recovery after exercise, they’re often looking for protein to support muscle repair and growth.

Compared with options like the Peanut Butter Bomb, Plant Peanut Butter Bomb or Mocha Protein, The Ultimate Recovery behaves more like a hydration and replenishment drink than a traditional recovery shake.

Best Smoothie for Weight Loss

Weight loss is where things become slightly more complicated.

If we’re judging purely on calories, All The Greens wins comfortably. At roughly 95 calories per serving, it’s the easiest smoothie to fit into a calorie-controlled diet.

However, successful weight loss isn’t simply about choosing the lowest-calorie item available. Hunger matters too.

Many dietitians argue that foods containing higher amounts of protein and fibre often make weight loss easier because they help people feel fuller for longer. Viewed through that lens, the Plant Peanut Butter Bomb becomes an extremely compelling option despite containing more calories.

If your goal is reducing overall calorie intake, All The Greens is difficult to beat. If your goal is staying satisfied and avoiding mid-morning snacking, the Plant Peanut Butter Bomb may be the smarter long-term choice.

Best Smoothie for Diabetics

While individual dietary requirements vary, the Plant Peanut Butter Bomb again stands out.

Its combination of relatively low sugar, high fibre and strong protein content makes it one of the most balanced options available for those paying close attention to blood sugar management.

Of course, anyone living with diabetes should consult their healthcare professional for personalised advice, but from a nutritional perspective, this smoothie consistently performs well where it matters most.

Best New Addition

Among the newcomers, Peanut Butter Berry impressed us the most.

Made with sugar-free peanut butter, blueberries, banana, dates and almond milk, it strikes a pleasant middle ground between indulgence and nutrition.

A 350ml serving provides 9.3g of protein, 5.1g of fibre and approximately 313 calories. While it doesn’t top any single category, it avoids the extremes that characterise some of the other new additions.

It’s satisfying, reasonably balanced and likely to appeal to a broad range of smoothie drinkers.

Our Overall Pick

If we had to choose a single smoothie based purely on nutritional value, the Plant Peanut Butter Bomb would be our pick.

It isn’t the lowest in calories. It isn’t the highest in protein. Yet it consistently performs exceptionally well across all the categories we analysed.

Low sugar, high protein, excellent fibre content and plant-based ingredients combine to create one of the most balanced nutritional profiles on the menu.

Many smoothies excel in one area while compromising in another. The Plant Peanut Butter Bomb manages to avoid most of those trade-offs.

Final Thoughts

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from revisiting Kauai’s smoothie menu is that healthy-looking doesn’t always mean healthy for your specific goals.

Some smoothies are closer to a light refreshment. Others are effectively meals in a cup. A few contain surprisingly high amounts of sugar, while others offer enough protein and fibre to keep you satisfied for hours.

The good news is that there isn’t a universally right or wrong choice. The best smoothie depends entirely on what you’re trying to achieve.

Looking for the fewest calories? All The Greens is the standout.

Need protein after a workout? The Peanut Butter Bomb remains difficult to beat.

Watching your sugar intake? The Plant Peanut Butter Bomb deserves a closer look.

And if you’re simply searching for the strongest all-round nutritional package on the menu, that’s still where we’d place our money.
