10+ Things to do in Knysna

Visiting Knysna?

Here’s a quick list of things to do in Knysna that we’ve compiled after a recent 48hr stay in the area whilst driving the Garden Route

Grab some wine, Oysters and delicious deli goods at 33 degrees.

An easy to miss space at “The (Knysna) Waterfront” is 33 Degrees South.

A store filled with local memorabilia, like hoodies and capes to a fantastic selection of South African micro-brewed beers and wine. If you’re staying on a houseboat or going on a cruise pick up some oysters and deli items like creamy hummus, locally baked bread and of course some Knysna oysters to take along.

Take a cruise out to “The Knysna Heads”

Just opposite The Turbine Hotel is a little skippers store.

A 12 seater boat offers a tour of the lagoon which is headed by the knowledgeable and friendly Monty who has been in Knysna for longer than ive been alive. He knows all the scandal of the seas and is incredibly witty.

Shop Thessen Island

There are so many stores with unique products, beautiful fabrics, crafted crockery and of course local art. Explore, Explore, Explore!

Rent a canoe and paddle the lagoon.

There isn’t an array of activities in Knysna, a lot revolves around relaxation, doing nothing but de-stressing, eating, drinking and mostly, water sports from paddling down the way or riding a tube on the back of a boat. Time spent on the water is certainly not time wasted. Just look out for sea critters like seahorses, seals and octopus.

Grab a coffee and flakey pastry at Ile de Pain.

Im so sad we discovered this so late in our stay in Knysna and with it being a Sunday the following day (Ile de pain is closed on Sundays) Entering the photogenic space, Ile de pain is perfumed by the scent of coffee being converted to cappuccinos, to sour dough being baked and pain au chocolate being plated on a plank. Ile de pain is definitely the spot to fill that between lunch and dinner gab you may have in your belly. Whether you have a sweet or savoury tooth the menu has something for most. The High Tea also looked like an absolute winner.

Hop on a Scooter and hold on tight.

A unique and true forest experience. Enjoy an exhilarating downhill on the Monster Mountain Scooter, descent through indigenous forest, sweepy bends and single track.  A scenic minibus ride  takes you into the heart of the forest to the best hills to start your descent in the Garden Route National Park.  All of this while on the  lookout for the our local wild life, the majestic Knysna loerie, the shy bushbuck and  wild boar.
