The Kitchen at Maison Closes

New Look Maison & Four Coursemen Collaboration series 5

With The departure of Eat Out Award wining chef Arno Janse, The Kitchen at Maison (wine estate, Franschhoek) will close it’s doors to make way for Chef Liam Tomlin of Chef’s Warehouse.

Chef Tomlin is no stranger to Franschhoek having worked with Leopard’s Leap in the early days to establish a similar setup to his popular Tapas style eatery and retail space; Chef’s Warehouse & Canteen on Bree Street, Cape Town.

Maison has also recently undergone a revamp, with walls taking on a darker tone, the addition on greenery and foliage and more seating.

In a statement from the PR team at Maison we were told:

Chefs Warehouse will move into The Kitchen restaurant premises from 1 December 2017 to create Chefs Warehouse at Maison.

This will be Chef Liam Tomlin’s fourth eatery, joining the Chefs Warehouse and Canteen on Bree Street, Thali in Gardens, and Chefs Warehouse at Beau Constantia.

Tomlin’s team will also take over the running of the estates’ deli & homeware shop, as well as the tasting room which will continue to showcase Maison Estate’s award-winning wines by winemaker Antwan Bondesio.

Chris Weylandt, owner of Maison Estate, is excited to be collaborating with such a like-minded brand. “Chefs Warehouse share our values of creating delicious food and wine, in an environment that embodies great design, which combine to deliver a wonderful and unique experience for all visitors.”

Chris explains how the departure of Chef Arno Janse van Rensburg opened the opportunity to try something new:

“We looked at lots of different options once we knew Arno was leaving to run his own restaurant, and when the opportunity with Liam came up, it was the one that excited us the most by far.”

Chef Liam Tomlin had this to say:

“Joining forces with the beautiful Maison Estate in Franschhoek, is a great fit for us at Chefs Warehouse – it just feels right.

As with the other restaurants in the Chefs Warehouse stable, the emphasis will be on serving great food based on our successful formula of ‘global tapas’, teamed with the estate’s equally great wines.”

“Heading up the kitchen will be David Schneider, an outstanding and driven young chef who has had the benefit of working alongside me at Chefs Warehouse, Bree Street, and with Ivor Jones at Chefs Warehouse @ Beau Constantia.

We’re also very excited to be running a similar deli and homeware shop to the one in Bree Street, along with the wine tasting room, which will be an added string to our bow,” he continued.

The combination of Chefs Warehouse and Maison Estate’s award winning wines, is set to provide an unforgettable taste experience in this beautiful Franschhoek winelands setting.

The restaurant opening days and hours are as follows:

Restaurant open Wednesday to Monday lunch.

Restaurant open for dinner Wednesday to Saturday.

Tasting room open 7 days a week.
