This coffee shop prank perfectly demonstrates the risk of sharing data online

When last did you update you privacy settings on Facebook? How much are you sharing on your blog and social media?

Have a look at this video and see why you should perhaps re-look into how much personal information you’re really sharing.

Or, just say meh and move on.

Ever wondered how much data a company could gather on you with nothing more than a first name and a Facebook Like?

In the experiment above — which was shared by fraud prevention company Cifas — a coffee shop shows exactly that; by getting customers to Like their Facebook page for a free coffee and then asking for their first name, they’re able to quickly compile scary amounts of personal data in the time it takes to whip up a cappuccino.

The information — which is searched for by people in a van across the road and whispered into the ear of the coffee server — ranges from contact details and past education to current employment and religion.

Big Brother really is watching you.
