Business & Event Closures following COVID-19 Presidential announcement

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s address relating to measures of preventing the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) many business entities, as well as national events, have opted to cancel and close in the interest of their staff and clientele. The below list is updated by comments, and information from social media and was correct on the date of publication.

On the 18th of March 2020, a further announcement was made that licenced premises were to close at 18h00 Monday – Saturday and at 13h00 on Sundays. Within these hours the business are prohibited to serve more than 50 people at one time/sitting.

FRANSCHHOEK

TEMPORARILY CLOSED IN FRANSCHHOEK

Some of our hospitality businesses will be closing down for a short while in light of curbing the further spread of COVID-19. Please note that all other hospitality businesses in Franschhoek have been putting extra measures in place to ensure the safety of tourists and staff.

The following hospitality establishments are currently temporarily closed to the public:

EVENTS / FESTIVALS IN FRANSCHHOEK

The weekly Saturday Franschhoek Village Market held at the NG Church Grounds in Franschhoek will be cancelled for now until further notice.

The Boschendal Friday Night Market has been cancelled until further notice.

Harvest Music and Wine Celebration at Black Elephant Vintners – 28 March 2020 – has been cancelled.

The American Express Winter Sculpture Fair 9 & 10 May 2020 – This event has been postponed. A new date will be made available in due course.

Franschhoek Literary Festival – 15, 16 & 17 May 2020 – This event has been cancelled.

Franschhoek Bastille Festival 11 & 12 July 2020 – This festival will not be cancelled or postponed at this stage. FWV is monitoring the situation carefully. Regular updates will be provided.
