We’ve compiled a list of KZN (Durban) based restaurants that are either up and running or delivering food and take away options despite the liquor law announcement that all alcohol sales are to seize after 18hoo Monday to Saturday and at 13h00 on Sundays.

HIGHWAY (Hillcrest, Kloof etc)
BELLEVUE CAFÉ, 5 Bellevue Road, Kloof has CLOSED its doors until further notice. “Due to COVID-19 and the new laws that came into place last night, Guy and the team feel that this is morally the correct thing to do for our Kloof community and to send our staff home so that they can be safe with their families. We will keep you updated on when we will be reopening.”
PAPA GIOVANNI’S Pizzeria in 42 Old Main Road, Hillcrest Centre, Hillcrest is staying open and operating a Call & Collect service and Mr Delivery. Call 031 765 3617 for call & collect.
BUTCHER BOYS at Hillcrest, Umhlanga and Florida road are staying open, delivering, offering a Call & Collect service and have just launched, an EAT AT HOME and COOK AT HOME service. Call Umhlanga: 031 561 4106; Florida Road: 031 312 8248; Hillcrest: 031 110 0111.
LIVING ROOM at Summerhill Estate in Cowies Hill is remaining open. As this is a relatively small operation they are easily able to offer spaced seating, but also fabulous food. This picture below of one of their meals, of Midlands lamb, cauliflower & nectarine. It’s probably one of the most beautiful food pictures I’ve seen in a while. A work of art. GATE OF INDIA at Gillitts Shopping Centre (031 764 1517) and Westville 123 Jan Hofmeyr Road are offering more specials on their delivery menu as well as spaced seating at their restaurants. Call Mr D.
SEBASTIAN’S at 1 MacLean street, Umkomaas, is offering a Call & Collect service. Call 074 855 7047. The restaurant has instituted appropriate safety measures. Judging by their Facebook page they seem to specialise in seafood and are offering a fabulous prawn special of 1kg for only R199 right now.
MORNINGSIDE/BEREA
CAFE 1999, Silverton Road, We are now closing our doors indefinitely. It is a decision that we make with a heavy heart. Let’s hope we can return to normal. THE GLENWOOD BAKERY at 398 Esther Roberts Road, Glenwood is already using Uber Eats to deliver pizzas etc. in the evenings and a limited lunch selection during the day. Adam Robinson writes: “We are now offering to deliver bread to your doors. It is a minimum order of 10 loaves or the equivalent with pastries, bagels etc. There will be a delivery charge of R30 and 36 hours’ notice will be needed (slow fermentation etc). All orders or communication by WhatsApp only to my phone on 072 614 6081. We ask for payment in advance by EFT and a POP sent to my phone.” Deliveries for now only between Umbilo and Morningside. These breads will cost the same as they do in the bakery.”
A PIZZA MY HEART, 106 Bulwer Road has reduced its opening hours for now from 2pm to 8pm and offering a Call & Collect service that goes like this. 1. WhatsApp 083 794 5875 for a menu. 2. Place your order. 3. A thumbs-up sign is confirmation. 4. WhatsApp when you are five minutes away and you will be met by a gloved staffer with sanitised card machine or Zapper QR code – and your pizza of course.
STELLA sports Club at 175 Helen Joseph Cub, Glenwood: Family Meals now available for Pick Up or Delivery.. Place orders via WhatsApp. Their normal menu is available as well. Call 31 201 7717.
UNITY in the Silvervause Centre, Silverton Road is offering Mr D/Uber Eats delivery service (Call 031 201 3470) It’s sister eatery, CAFÉ 1999 is offering take-out deliveries to Morningside, Musgrave and Glenwood area. Call 031 202 3406. Both are staying open and have introduced spaced dining options (no more than 50 guests) and the appropriate hygenic practices.
S43 restaurant and brewery at Station Drive is temporarily closing their operation and will report back next week with more information.

CRAZY KOREAN in Glenashley is offering a Call & Collect service: “If you would like to order take-aways, please WhatsApp KJ on 079 4609107 and collect from 23 The Promenade, Glenashley. Orders generally take 15-20 mins to make and cashless payments can be made by using Zapper.” They are also about to offer a new “Ready to Cook” Korean meal and sauce service. JOITA’S Portuguese Restaurant, Shop 52, Protea Mall, Lighthouse Road, Umhlanga Rocks, looks like it’s closing after 6pm. Many restaurants seemed to be confused about this restriction, which only relates to selling alcohol after 6pm. Anyway, they are offering take-aways as long as they are ordered by 5pm and collected by 6pm. “Deliveries adhering to the same time frame will be done through the Mr D app. Call 031 561 3577 if you have any queries.”
THE CHEFS TABLE, first floor, Protea Mall, Umhlanga. “In light of recent changes to legislation, we have amended our trading hours, as follows: Monday – Saturday: 11am – 6pm (bookings until 4.30pm).
