Jazz up your Winter At Delheim

Delheim Stellenbosch Live Music Jazz 2022

First impressions are everything, and Hassan’adas is the perfect person to set the tone for the season at Delheim. For their July 3 performance, John Hassan and his jazz band fuse traditional African rhythms and melodies with inspirations from performers from throughout the world.

The list of artists with whom John has worked includes Miriam Makeba, Stimela, Hugh Masekela, Brenda Fassie, Manu Dibango, Moses Molelekwa, and Loading Zone, to name just a few.

Ramon Alexander, a pianist and composer, takes the stage on July 10th. One of the most popular bands in South Africa, this group has played at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, the Borneo International Jazz Festival, The Darling Music Experience, and a residency at No Black Tie Jazz Club in Kuala Lumpur. Alexander is a jazz musician and instructor at Stellenbosch University. He has two CDs to his name.

After Babalwa Mentjies, on July 17, comes the accomplished jazz singer and songwriter. Feya Faku, Sazi Dhlamini, and Neil Gonsalvies are some of the well-known artists she has collaborated with. George Werner, Bongani Sotshononda, and Carlo Fabe make up the Quartet at Delheim (drums).

This is only the beginning. The full line-up includes:

In the first week of July, Hassan Adas Quartet, Ramon Alexander Quartet, Babalwa Meintjies and quartet, Mark Fransman Homage Quartet, Bongani Sotshononda quartet, and Mark Fransman Quartet will perform.

There will be performances by the Sean Sanby Quartet on August 7; Thandeka Dladla and Trio on August 14; and Keegan Steenkamp on August 21.
By Nobuhle Ashanti, 28th of August.
