LittleGig, Big Heart

LittleGig, Big Heart 11

I’m not that gay,

I can happily pitch a tent (ehem)as long as it’s fitted with 100% cotton linen, electricity and a pig on a chair.

Well, thanks to Hey Pioneer, LITTLEGIG it is!

LittleGig is the world’s only curated “all-included” festival, returns to Cape Town in 2017 with an eclectic line-up of international talent in music, food and design.

LOCATION: Wiesenhof farm in Stellenbosch

DATE: 28-29 January 2017

Tickets range from R1950 (festival only)-R4400 Couples Glamping by Hey Pioneer

To book: Quick Tickets

You’ll have read about the beautiful camping experience that Hey Pioneer offer in my Summer Wish list HERE and honestly if Janu-worry wasn’t such a wet blanket I would have happily forked out the cash for the activity laden event.

Literally the only problem I would have is finding a plus one to share my tent with and hey, by the looks of things if I adventured to Wiesenhof solo I doubt my tent would remain empty.

I wont lie to you, the below is legit-copy & paste press release but I have categorized it so that you don’t have to read the 700 words yourself, blady ADD millennials.

If you go, please tag me is all your schnanigans! You know where it’s at: INSTAGRAM || TWITTER

FOOD//LITTLEGIG

Rasmus Munk will host a Chef’s Table (at an additional charge of R1000 per head) and will take part in the Chef-and-Farmer Tasting. Only 25 years old, Munk is at the forefront of a new wave in Nordic cuisine. He sees food as a stage for storytelling, provocation and sensory deception. Munk focuses on designing the entire eating experience at his Copenhagen-based restaurant, Alchemist, which was named “Innovator of the Year” by Nordic food bible White Guide Denmark 2016/17.

MUSIC// LITTLEGIG

Johannesburg-based international DJ / producer Culoe de Song’s music has been described as ‘epic African house with a strange touch.’ His international success over the past few years is testament to his ability to segue international and African sounds, mixing the best beats from both worlds. A protégé of Black Coffee, Culoe now releases globally with German label Innervisions and has played at top tier parties including the coveted DC-10 Circo Loco in Ibiza, Watergate and Fabric. Culoe will be playing a 3-hour back-to back sundowner DJ set with executive producer Strat3gy (who is also a partner at House Afrika record label and Black Coffee’s Africa Rising).

Seth Schwarz is the headline DJ for Littlegig’s Night Stage, held on Wiesenhof’s old basketball court. A classically trained violinist, Schwarz has become known for his highly crafted merging of the analogue world of the violin with the digital basslines of house and techno. He is a fixture on the underground electronic music scene, playing at festivals around Europe and events such as Burning Man in the US.

L.A. DJ/producer Captain Planet (Charlie B. Wilder) has a trademark sound that breaks boundaries between genres and bridges continents through rhythm. He has released 3 successful full-length albums, and collaborated with artists from around the world. Founder of music blog Mixtaperiot.com (popular go-to for DJ’s, tastemakers and underground music lovers worldwide), Captain Planet is headlining Littlegig’s Tropical Bass Tent.

Nakhane Touré is a singer/songwriter whose debut album Brave Confusion won a SAMA for the Best Alternative Album. He took the name Touré in homage to his idol Ali Farka Touré though he is as likely to cite Morrissey, Nina Simone or Radiohead as influences. Multi-talented Touré’s debut novel Piggy Boy’s Blues was long-listed for the Sunday Times Barry Ronge Fiction Award in 2016, and he has recently played the lead in his debut feature film. Touré will headline the daytime Forest Stage.

MORE FOOD//HIPSTER STUFF

Littlegig has added many new features for 2017, giving festival-goers a wide range of unusual experiences to choose from. A DJ Art Car will play the sundowner set on an island in the venue’s lake, with the vehicle moving to a secret forest location after midnight. The island will also host a Rum Shack playing rare African vinyl music, and a Tropical Bass Tent serving vegan juices and snacks. The Chef-and-Farmer Tasting will feature local chefs Chris Erasmus (Foliage), Jason Lilley (Jason’s), PJ Vadas (The Hoghouse) teaming up with farmers Angus McIntosh and Wayne Rademeyer (Buffalo Ridge).

Other new features include a Night Lawn experience with mint tea and hookah pipes, and the Krone Salon – a champagne bar with hair and make-up stylists.

The incredibly popular Concept Store will return – a shop in the forest selling one-off festival fashion items made by selected artisans and designers (with a great DJ line-up). Also to be repeated are the Wine Tasting (focusing in 2017 on wines from some of the best farms in the Simonsberg area, including Tokara, Glen Carlou, Babylonstoren, Warwick and others), a late-night gin and single malt speakeasy, a free convenience store and Sunday morning yoga.

On the design front, Littlegig has collaborated with furniture designer Xandre Kriel who will make ‘trading posts’ used around the festival, and Whatiftheworld Gallery, who will present outdoor art.
